Halfway through recording his third album for Ninja, Joe Corrales Jr - aka Yppah (pronounced “yippah”) - got bitten by the surfing bug in the Texas Gulf Coast and decided to up sticks for Long Beach.

Hence the new LP Eighty One (the year he was born) is a diversion from his previous guitar-centric style, with many a moment of dappled Californian sunshine, light-reflecting-off-the-water synth, and effects-weathered hip-hop loops.
