In a regular dispatch from our esteemed friends at Studio 45, DJ and rogue in brogues Dean Thatcher gives us his recommended release for May. Eddie Piller the head honcho of Acid Jazz Records and the recently launched Totally Wired Radio station, has once again teamed up with his very famous actor buddy Martin Freeman, and lovingly put together a double compilation of top notch soul nuggets. The release follows on from last years aclaimed Jazz On The Corner compilation, which is also worth checking out. Opening with the inimitable Bobby Womack and How Could You Break My Heart, as Piller explains; “I never tire of hearing this record and have used regularly to close my DJ set, it’s a real hands-in-the-air moment.” Other featured artists include Laville, Sergio Mendes, The Reverend T.L. Barrett, Jerry Butler, Barbara Acklin and Georgie Fame with his fantastic version of Daylight, our featured track. There’s 30 tracks in total, 15 from each chin stroker. Enjoy.
